How Can I Prevent Tooth Decay for My Child?

Hi! Dr. Lantzy here. To understand how you can prevent tooth decay for your child, we first must understand what tooth decay is. Essentially, tooth decay is when the tooth’s enamel, the outermost layer of the tooth, is destroyed. Ever heard of a cavity? That’s exactly what tooth decay is!

So, how can you prevent it? Well, there are a couple of things you can do. Firstly, have them brush twice a day, morning and night, preferably with a fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is a natural mineral found in our teeth that helps to build the enamel back up. Secondly, have them floss daily! Thirdly, visit your pediatric dentist regularly. The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist every 6 months.

Here at Lantzy Children’s Dentistry, we put a large emphasis on preventive and educational treatment. With Sparkles the Tooth Fairy dropping into our office here and there to educate our wonderful patients, your child will be excited to start brushing and flossing regularly!
