What is Lip and Tongue Correction?

Sometimes the frenum, which is a thin piece of tissue that connects the lips to the gums, and also runs on the underside of the tongue, is too long causing a tight connection. When this occurs, the range of motion is severely limited. Here at Lantzy Children’s Dentistry, we use a laser device called the Gemini Diode to gently release the frenum, allowing for more oral range of motion.

A lip and tongue tie correction, often referred to as a release, can help improve eating, speech, breathing, tongue placement and more. This procedure is quick and minimally invasive, and is more effective the earlier it’s completed.

Lip and Tongue Tie Complications

If left untreated, lip and tongue tie complications range from speech difficulties, poor oral hygiene, breathing issues, sleep disruptions, tongue placement and more. As an infant, it can severely impact the ability to nurse and gain weight.
