Sealants
Thank you for visiting our sealants page! We are often times asked “what is a sealant?”, and we are here to answer that!
A sealant is a protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. Sealant acts as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, thus protecting the decay-prone areas of the teeth.

Why are Sealants Necessary?
There is one main reason why we recommend children to get sealants applied to their teeth. Molars can be very hard to reach, and therefore clean, causing the risk of tooth decay on certain parts of the molar to increase. Sealants can actually help prevent a cavity from ever forming by acting as a protective barrier for the tooth.
